5 Steps for Setting Up Network Storage Drives

Both businesses and individuals can benefit from Network Storage Drives. Owning a drive allows you to back up important workplace programs, as well as add and remove files from your PC and laptop in order to easily organize files on your computer. They also allow you to send, receive, and even stream various files quickly and easily.

Network Storage Drives can easily save you time and trouble. For those that have recently purchased a drive and are curious as to the set up, follow these simple systems below:

  1. Plug in the drive. Connect all of the cords, including the Ethernet cable to your router. Once you have turned your drive on, you should be able to access any Network Storage Drives as long as you have the proper privileges.
  2. Open the drive on your computer. On Windows Vista, this is accomplished by pressing the “Start” button, clicking on “Network” and finding your drive. Open the folder and you can start editing and saving folders and files at your leisure.
  3. Map your drive to the network by right clicking on your folders and selecting the “Map Network Drive” option. This allows you to easily save files into these folders, as well as find the folders in “My Computer.” You can also edit the drive letter if you wish.
  4. Start the configuration process by running the installer CD and setting up the various functions and programs that come with the Network Storage Drives. Not all drives will have useful advanced features. Be sure and give yourself a username and password that you will never forget, as resetting your system should you forget your password can be a tremendous inconvenience.
  5. Several Network Storage Drives allow you to remotely access your system using the right programs. Be sure and enable these so that you can easily access your drive using the Internet, even when you are away from home.

Installation of your Network Storage Drives can differ quite a bit depending on brand, extra programs, operating systems and other configuration difficulties. For many, the task can seem a bit daunting, and experts may be needed if you have purchased one of the more complicated systems (such as those based around Network Storage Server models).

But most devices follow the simple steps above for starting your drive configuration, and those that tend to be more difficult should provide you with clear, easy to understand instructions that will make the process far easier.
